What kind of energy gel works best?
I'm trying to figure out a good type of energy gel to use.
I'm a very competitive swimmer and I'm always trying to find a good way to get a good boost of energy before I swim. Many of my coaches have suggested energy gels but haven't suggested a specific brand. Any preferences?
It's a personal thing -- You really need to try them yourself. As far as I know, the big brands (power bar, clif shot) contain the same primary ingredients. Only you can determine if you can tolerate a particular brand (not to mention be able to stand the taste). My husband used Stingers for awhile (he got them free), but couldn't stand the honey flavoring. I use the brands interchangebly (I have no digestive tolerance issues). My flavor preference changes with time, but leans towards simple vanilla flavors.
I suggest you pick one brand and try them during a training session. See how it goes. Don't EVER introduce anything new (brand or flavor) during a competition!
